Snarestone In The Snow

January 2010

Like much of the rest of the country, Snarestone has been locked in a 'Cold Snap' now since the first week of the New Year. Regular light snow falls and temperatures recorded on some car dashboards as low as -12, it is certainly some of the coldest weather experienced in the village for many years. The school has managed to stay open, although some of the gritting of the pavements has been largely ineffective because of the low temperatures. The local farmers are working overtime to protect the harvested vegetables, and the canal has been frozen over for several days now. With more snow forecast, and national levels of grit and salt falling, the landscape could remain white for a while yet.

Despite the sunshine, it was still -6 when these pictures were taken!
